The UFL kicks off tonight, and three of the four games’ depth charts have been released! Louisville Kings

QB: Jason Bean / Chandler Rodgers
RB: Benny Snell / Ian Wheeler
WR1: Tarik Black / Kaden Panther / JaVonta Payton
WR2: Carter Bell
WR3: Lucky Jackson / Isaiah Winstead / Tyler Hudson
TE: Zach Davidson / Tre’ McKitty

The Louisville Kings are one of the new teams in the UFL this year, and there was a lot of talk about which quarterback would lead this team in Week 1. Coach Chris Redman has named former Kansas Jayhawk Jason Bean his starting quarterback. It was a true battle between him and Chandler Rodgers. However, Bean will get the first chance to show what he can do.

At the running back position, former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Benny Snell will start. This is a player who played four years in the NFL and could be one of the best backs in the league. He’ll be backed up by NFL preseason standout Ian Wheeler.

The Kings’ wide receiver depth chart was what had the most surprises for me. Tarik Black, Carter Bell, and Lucky Jackson will be the lead receivers. Black didn’t produce huge numbers in college and has since been on practice squads in the NFL. He has apparently jumped and excelled at this new opportunity. It surprised me to see Javonta Payton so far back on the depth chart as well as Isaiah Winstead. Winstead was a contributor for the Renegades, and I expected him to grab a starting spot. They may still see the field, of course. We’ll monitor to see how the stats pan out and how it alters the depth charts.

If you’re looking for a tight end for your UFL fantasy football leagues, Zach Davidson will get to start.

Birmingham Stallions

QB: Matt Corral / Michael Hiers
RB: Anthony McFarland / Snoop Conner
WR1: Justyn Ross / Daewood Davis
WR2: Jaydon Mickens / Jabre Barber
WR3: Deon Cain / Laviska Shenault
TE: Jordan Thomas / Tyler Davis

The Stallions head into the season with a big spring football reputation. However, they no longer have Skip Holtz as their head coach. Instead, it’s former Battlehawks quarterback, first-time head coach A.J. McCarron, taking over. The Stallions’ depth chart didn’t hold too many surprises outside of the wide receiver position.

Matt Corral has had success in this league previously. Back from injury and fully healthy, he was the obvious choice to get the job. Anthony McFarland has also looked really good in the UFL, despite not getting the usage that he should have based on talent.

The wide receiver depth chart held some surprises for me. In the fantasy football leagues I was in, Laviska Shenault was drafted very high, given his NFL experience. I expected to see him in the starting lineup. I’m not saying he should start over Deon Cain. Cain has shown a lot of success in spring football. Daewood Davis is another player who’s shown flashes in this league. I’m sure both Davis and Shenault will get onto the field. However, to see them not starting surprised me.

Jordan Thomas will retain his position as the starting tight end.

Dallas Renegades

QB: Austin Reed / Luis Perez
RB: Ellis Merriweather / Lorenzo Lingard
WR1: Deontay Burnett / Denzel Mims
WR2: Drake Stoops / Greg Ward Jr.
WR3: Tyler Vaughns / Emmanuel Butler
TE: Seth Green / Baylor Cupp

The UFL switched the Arlington Renegades to Dallas, and they had some big surprises on their depth chart that caused a lot of buzz. Austin Reed was named the starting quarterback, and the spring football socials went crazy. The former “King of Spring” will still potentially get playing time. However, the first shot on the field will be for Reed, who showed a lot of flashes in NFL preseason games.

The other surprise was to see that Dae Dae Hunter must have an injury. He was the starting running back last year. However, not even being on the depth chart would lead me to believe he’s injured. Ellis Merriweather is listed as the starting running back and will be backed up by Lorenzo Lingard.

The wide receiving and tight end group was a little less surprising. Tyler Vaughns and Deontay Burnett will likely lead this team in targets. Seth Green was the Renegades’ tight end last year, and I had expected him to continue that role.

Houston Gamblers

QB: Nolan Henderson / Hunter Dekkers / Taulia Tagovailoa
RB: Jalen White / Marcus Major / Marcus Yams / Kirk Merritt
WR1: Jalen Moreno-Cooper / Lujuan Winningham
WR2: Justin Hall / Lawrence Keys
WR3: Jontre Kirklin / Kai Locksley
TE: Armani Rogers / Cam Sutton / Geor’Quarius Spivey

The Houston Gamblers kick off the UFL season with Kevin Sumlin as their coach and quarterback Nolan Henderson leading their depth chart. There was speculation throughout training camp on who might win this starting job. It could still end up going to Taulia Tagovailoa, who was just brought in several days ago.

The running back position was also a question mark. Jalen White will get the first crack at it, being backed up by Marcus Major. Houston’s depth chart is the only one that goes to list multiple backups at positions, so it will be interesting to see how the workload is split up. This is definitely something to watch for your fantasy football team.

At wide reciever it’s no surprise Jontre Kirklin is a starter. He’ll be backed up by Kai Locksley. They’ll also roll out Jalen Moreno-Cooper and Justin Hall, with Lujuan Winningham and Lawrence Keys backing them up. Armani Rogers gets the start at tight end.

St. Louis Battlehawks

QB: Brandon Silvers / Harrison Frost
RB: Jarveon Howard / Kevon Latulas / Kylin James
WR1: Hakeem Butler / Steven McBride
WR2: Blake Jackson / Justin Smith
WR3: Jahcour Pearson / Rahjal Harris
WR4: Frank Darby / Gary Jennings Jr. / Kevon Latulas
TE: Tyler Neville / James Bostic

Battlehawks new head coach, Ricky Proehl, had a soundbite telling everybody there may be some surprises on the depth chart. However, when it was officially released, as far as the fantasy football offensive players, no surprises jumped out.

Brandon Silvers was expected to be the starting quarterback, and he is. They recently added Michael Pratt, who could take the job over. However, that will take some time. Jerveon Howard retains his starting running back position from last year.

The receiver group starters are roughly the same as last year as well. Hakeem Butler, Blake Jackson, Jahcour Pearson, and Frank Darby will be the starting four. This is also the only team so far to list four wide receiver spots rather than just three. Don’t be surprised if you see a lot of four and five-wide sets.

Tyler Neville will be the starting tight end when they have a tight end on the field, and James Bostic will back him up. Something to monitor is Kevon Latulas. Not only is he listed as a backup running back, but a backup wide receiver as well. Expect Latulas to be involved on passing down situations, and be the pass-catching running back.

DC Defenders

QB: Jordan Ta’amu / Mike DiLiello / Spencer Sanders
RB: Deon Jackson / Abram Smith / Xazavian Valladay
WR1: Ty Scott / Braylon Sanders
WR2: Keke Couttee / Eric Ezunkama
WR3: Seth Powell / Cornell Powell
TE: Mason Fairchild / Briley McKinney / Ben Bresnahan

The DC Defenders return their coaching staff and a lot of starters. Therefore, their Week 1 depth chart didn’t have many surprises. Jordan Ta’amu will still lead this team at the quarterback position, just as he has the past two years.

Deon Jackson and Abram Smith will share the backfield again, much like they did last year. I expect Deon Jackson to be the lightning to Abram Smith’s thunder. As far as receivers, only one thing jumped out to me. Cornell Powell is listed as a backup to Seth Powell. Cornell has been a regular contributor, and despite being listed as a backup, I still expect him to be involved.

At the tight end position, as of now, Mason Fairchild has the lead over returning starter Briley McKinney.
